The Barge Master’s role is to support the operation of the company’s fleet of jack-up barges. The Barge Masters must comply with stringent quality, health & safety and environmental policies and management systems to ensure all plant is operated safely and in accordance with risk and method statements.
On top of operating the barge and moving it to, from and around site locations, the Barge Master is responsible for conducting and maintaining daily diaries, barge inspections, toolbox talks, daily briefings, and site movement reports.
To be signed off as a Barge Master, you would need to achieve the following criteria:
Barge familiarisation
Safety standards
Machinery familiarisation
Pre-Start checks
Jacking operations
Access and Egress
Barge moves
Maintenance of machinery
Leg lowering and pinning
Pre-loading
Daily vessel administration
Geotechnical knowledge
Emergency responses
Vessel operational limits
Stability exercises
Jacking up and down
In addition to the above criteria, the following certification would need to be achieved:
Confined space
Working at height
Slinger/Signaller
ENG1 / STCW Medical
First aid/first responder
RYA Powerboat L2
VHF communications
